To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Not missing much...

I haven't blogged all week.

But, here's what you have all missed...

All I do is eat fudgesicles (all day... all night...)

The end.

P.S. They ARE sugarfree (but, I doubt that's helping with the quantity I am eating).

The Amazing A-Dizzle Duo!

So, it's becoming increasingly difficult to do things I have never done before...
Or done for a long time! This was the first time since grade school, I had worn a backpack! And, I was super excited about it! Seriously, I am dork! I KNOW!
But, luckily I have great friends and a roommate, that are always willing to help me try.
This weekend we did the Great Urban Race in downtown L.A. It was a blast. A five (5) hour scavanger hunt where we ran and took public transportation all over L.A., Hollywood, and Santa Monica.

Diz was my partner and we were "The Amazing A-Dizzle Duo".

We joined forces with my friends Jenny and Jean. And, lucky for us, Jenny's husband Anthony was on-call all day to route us wherever we had to go... to the sundial at Our Church of the Angels, Sunset Blvd., the Hollywood walk of Stars, hotels, shelter, McArthur Park, etc.

We rode the metro and the bus. I found myself around lots of poles... and, I just couldn't help myself!

But, we weren't THAT amazing! And, although we thought our costumes were so cute...

we didn't have anything on these people!

Hopefully, we'll do better next year. But, we did have a snag with the L.A. protest closing down a lot of the streets we needed.

She caved! She caved!

Let's have a round of applause for Miss M.E. Clayton... who caved and said that she couldn't finish the bet!

So, now I can buy whatever I want. Yahoo!

Plus, everyone can start putting more money into their 401Ks... the stock market is about to sky rocket!

Another Good Reason...

... I am totally fine not being married!

This would be a direct quote from a guy I work with: "When I was little I thought, I can't wait to be married, I am going to dutch oven my wife all the time."

GROSS!

Seriously?!?

GROSS!

I have always wondered why guys are usually the ones dragging their feet. Clearly, we should be more leary.

Monkey Magic!

I have known Claire for 8 years now. She was my first friend when I moved back to California after college. And, she is still one of my closest. I call Claire "Monkey", always have... can't even remember why.

My friend "Monkey" is totally talented! She can find such junk and make it look amazing... it's magic... "Monkey" magic! This weekend, she showed me some of her tricks.

We headed out to the Goldenwest Swap Meet... which could quite possibly be the shadiest place that ever existed. They have been known to try to sell free matchboxes from 7-11 sans any matches, the top (ONLY the top) of a See's chocolate box, and A child's sock (just one... for those of you with one legged children).

But look what I found! Treasures!

Ugly, right?!? Way ugly, huh?!? I paid $85 for all of this! A bargain right?!?

I know they don't look like much... but with a little help...

We did this!

I bought this bench for $20. I bought the fabric for $9 and the batting for the padding for $14. I bought the paint for $8. $51! (Plus, I paid $17 each for the pillows). Isn't this so pretty? I even had a little extra fabric left over to redo the pillow on the chair across from the bench in the "breezeway".

For $40, I bought this bookcase. (Then I had to pay $5 to the little teenager to drive it carry it out to my car. And, $3 for bungee cords to keep it inside my trunk as I drove home.) I paid $10 for the new green acrylic knobs and $10 for the paint. $68! I can't wait to put books in it!

I paid $25 for this cedar chest. It still smells like cedar when you open it. I paid about $15 for the paint. So, for $40 I got this great piece to go at the end of my bed! I LOVE it!

Don't you all want a little "Monkey" magic?

Thanks Claire! I LOVE my new furniture. And, I love you! I can't wait to go back!

So......

I had a dream about Lionel Richie last night.

Which is just odd, right?

Haircut, isn't it about time?!?

So, my friend Dan has this "lady friend" who apparently told him that she likes his hair a little longer.

Logically, Dan started growing it out.

The problem is I am pretty sure he would have grown it out like Rapunzel's if no one dared to stop him!

So, we had to have an intervention!

It was time! Actually, it was past time (sorry Dan)!

So, yesterday Dan was telling me how good his hair looks when "his mom blow dries it". YIKES! Then he asked me if I thought it was too long.

In my charming and delightful way, I told him that it was maybe getting a little too long. (Actually, I think my exact words were "let's just say if you stuck a pick in the middle of your hair and started speaking Ebonics, it would totally fit your look!") - Charming... Delightful... that's me.

Luckily, Kyle had already informed him that a haircut was a necessity.

So, ladies and gentlemen, drum roll please….. Dan will be getting a haircut on Thursday!

Here he is au natural!

But before he does, I convinced him to let me do this "don't-you-wish-your-boyfriend-was-hot-like-me" look,

and this 50s greaser look,

and this Clay Aiken do,

and these innocent school girl looks,
and this up-do,

and this mowhawk (although his hair was TOO long and TOO curly to really pull it off),

and this brother-from-a-different-mother look. (This one's for you, Kyle!)

Now, if there is anyone who does not think Dan NEEDS a good haircut, speak now or forever hold your peace!
Thanks for being such a good sport Dan! That's what I adore most about you! (Plus, I'll have you all know that as he was leaving my house last night Dan said "I actually had a lot of fun doing that!)

Love it!

I heard this quote the other day. It's by Henry David Thoreau. It just struck me. I love it.

"As if you could kill time without injuring eternity."

I wish I would have heard it a decade ago, but then again, it probably wouldn't have meant anything to me way back when.

P.S. I know I have been a blog slacker lately. I have tons to type, pictures too... but, I am just too busy living my life to blog about it. But, I will.... soon... I promise.
